Aceh Peace Day 2026 Ricuh, TNI asks all parties to respect the symbols of the state

JAKARTA - The commemoration of Aceh Peace Day in the courtyard of the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque, Banda Aceh, Saturday, August 15, 2026, was marred by riots. The incident was marked by the lowering of the Red and White flag by the masses.

The TNI Headquarters regretted the incident and asked all parties to refrain and respect state symbols.

Head of the TNI Information Center, Major General TNI Muhammad Nas, said that the peaceful situation that had been maintained in Aceh must be maintained so that it does not trigger a conflict again.

"We really love that incident. The TNI appeals to us to respect the symbols of the state and to all parties to jointly maintain order and not take actions that can trigger conflicts and disrupt the atmosphere of peace," said Muhammad Nas.

According to him, the TNI together with the security apparatus and the regional government continue to coordinate to ensure that the security situation in Aceh remains safe and conducive after the riots.

"The TNI is always coordinating with the security apparatus and local governments in order to maintain stability and the atmosphere of the region," he said.

Rioting Involving Masses and Apparatus

The riots are said to have occurred after the crowd who came to the Aceh Peace Day memorial location clashed with TNI-Polri joint officers.

In the incident, the crowd reportedly threw stones at the officers. The officers then fired into the air and used tear gas to control the situation.

The atmosphere, which had previously taken place in the context of the Aceh Peace Day commemoration, turned tense. A number of vehicles were reported to have been damaged by stone throwing.

Based on information circulating from the location, there were also vehicles belonging to the TNI apparatus that were said to have been burned in the riots. Information regarding the damage and burning of the vehicle still needs to be further confirmed by the parties concerned.

TNI Guards Aceh Situation Still Conducive

The TNI Headquarters emphasized that coordination with security forces and local governments continued to be carried out to prevent the situation from developing into a wider conflict.

The TNI also reminded all parties to jointly maintain the peace of Aceh which has lasted for many years. The public is asked not to take actions that have the potential to complicate the situation, including actions that can trigger conflicts or disrupt public order.

The message also emphasized the importance of respecting state symbols in every community activity, especially in the midst of a situation that still receives the attention of the security apparatus.
