GARUT - The Garut Police revealed a bunker where hundreds of bottles of illegal liquor were stored in the Kerkof area, Garut Regency, West Java.

"We secured hundreds of bottles of alcohol that were stored in a bunker in the Kerkof area or Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan," said Head of the Narcotics Unit of the Garut Police, Maolana, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, October 12.

The liquor of various brands is known to be underground which the owner deliberately prepared before being sold illegally in the Garut area.

The purpose of making the bunker, said Maolana, was to trick the officers if there was a liquor raid operation in the place.

"This bunker was deliberately made underground to trick the officers, after seeing it, it turned out that there were hundreds of bottles of alcohol in the bunker," he said.

There are three bunkers made by liquor sellers with cardboard or box covers inside the shop building.

In that area, said Maolana, there are many semi-permanent stalls that are allegedly used as storage places for liquor.

During the day, he said, the stall is used as a place to sell food and drinks, used clothes, and a motorcycle repair shop.

"If it is camouflaged during the day, it becomes an ordinary selling place," he said.

From this operation, the police seized 260 bottles of various brands of liquor and brought the owner of the shop that kept the drinks.

The operation to eradicate liquor was carried out by the Garut Police because so far there have been many reports from the public regarding the rampant sales of intoxicating drinks.

"Drinking in the Kerkof area has been very troubling for Garut residents, so far many residents have reported the problem," said Maolana.
