Nahdliyyin Residents In Banyuwangi Reject Al Wafi Islamic Boarding School Educational Institution Project

BANYUWANGI - Nahdliyyin residents of Kabat District, Banyuwangi, East Java, rejected the project to build the Al Wafi Islamic Boarding School educational institution.

The refusal was made because residents suspected that the educational institution under the As Sudais foundation had Wahhabi views.

Syria Branch Representative Council NU Kabat, KH Moh Yamin, said the rejection was made because his party did not want chaos to occur later. Moreover, the current development permit has not yet been completed.

"Moreover, the permit has not been completed yet, suddenly building buildings, especially educational foundations, even though there are many schools around", said KH Yamin when confirmed, Monday, October 11.

Wahhabis, said Yamin, is in conflict with Nahdliyyin residents who adhere to Ahlussunah wal Jama'ah.

"Even though the formation of NU is to stem Wahhabism. So the birth of Wahhabi seeds must be dammed", said KH Yamin who is also the Chair of the Banyuwangi MUI.

He asked the local government to follow up on this condition.

"To prevent anything from happening there, I ask the sub-district head to take care of the permit, we will later help calm the community", said Yamin.

Meanwhile, Kabat Sub-district Head Susanto Wibowo hopes that this dispute will not be prolonged and residents will continue to maintain security.

"From the explanation of Branch Representative Council NU Kabat, yes. Indeed, they reject the development", he said.

A few days ago, the Branch Representative Council NU Kabat and the party in charge of development, according to Susanto, had mediated.

"Yesterday, on the 7th, we had a meeting, maybe everything is still under review. If there are plans for another meeting, I still don't know", he said.

Currently, the process of building Al Wafi Islamic Boarding School with a permit is still not complete.

"It is important for us that the submission process is by regulations, so far it has not been or is still in the process. If the sub-district is in principle as long as the licensing has not been completed, then there should be no activity in that place", he said.
