SAR Team Evacuates 4 Gold Miners Killed In One Hole In Sumbawa

MATARAM - The joint SAR team succeeded in evacuating the bodies of four gold miners who were found dead in a dug hole in Gapit Village, Empang District, Sumbawa Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

"All the victims are dead, then taken to the funeral home," said Head of the Mataram SAR Office, Nanang Sigit PH, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, October 6.

Nanang said the three victims were local residents named Said (33), Ucok (29), and Robi (21). Meanwhile, another victim is from Kakian on behalf of Razor (29).

According to information from the Gapit Village Head received by the Mataram SAR Office at 07.10 WITA, the miners have been digging gold mining holes since Friday, October 1.

However, all of them did not come out and local residents smelled a pungent smell coming from a hole with a depth of about 17 meters.

The Sumbawa and Bima SAR Post rescue teams were deployed and joined the TNI, Polri, BPBD, local residents, and other elements to carry out the evacuation.

"The evacuation process was completed on Wednesday, at 16.00 WITA," he said.

According to information received by the Mataram Search and Rescue Office, the victims are thought to have died as a result of exhaust fumes from the generator used entering the mine pit which was flooded with water.
