Most COVID-19 Cases In PON XX Are In Mimika

JAKARTA - The Papua Province COVID-19 Prevention and Handling Task Force (Satgas) said that there were still 28 athletes, officials and the organizing committee (panpel) of the XX National Sports Week (PON) who were confirmed positive for the Corona virus.

Spokesman for the Papua COVID-19 Task Force Silwanus Sumule in Jayapura, Tuesday, said that as of October 5, 2021, at 20.00 WIT, 29 cases were reported to his side. Luckily, one of them has recovered.

"The 29 cases consist of Mimika Regency with 13 cases, Jayapura Regency with seven cases, Jayapura City with six cases and Merauke Regency with three cases," he said, quoted from the official website of PON XX Papua.

According to Silwanus, the other 28 cases are still being treated, all of which are asymptomatic and/or mild.

"The handling is carried out with centralized isolation, namely on ships that have been prepared by the COVID-19 Task Force and PB PON Papua, then at partner hospitals that work with PB PON Papua," he said.

He explained that apart from that, there were still those who asked to self-isolate with close monitoring from health workers, all of whom were asymptomatic and/or had mild symptoms.

"From the athletes, officials and Panpel who were tested positive for COVID-19, namely from DKI Jakarta, North Sumatra, NTT, East Kalimantan, Banten, South Sulawesi, East Java and West Java," he said.

Athletes, officials and committee members at PON XX Papua who are confirmed positive for COVID-19 are people who have been vaccinated twice, because they are known to be exposed but have no symptoms and or have mild symptoms.

"Papua Province has experience dealing with COVID-19 with a high case rate since 2019 so we will continue to handle both upstream and downstream," he said.
