Director Of KPK Investigation Leads Arrest Of Azis Syamsuddin At His Home

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri said Deputy Speaker of the DPR Azis Syamsuddin was forcibly arrested at his residence in South Jakarta area on Friday, September 24. The arrest was led by the Director of Investigation of the KPK, Setyo Budiyanto.

"In this case, a team of investigators led by the Director of Investigations attempted to forcefully arrest AZ by directly visiting his residence in South Jakarta," Firli said at a press conference at the KPK's Merah Putih Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Saturday, 25 September.

This forced arrest was made after Azis asked for a postponement of the summons under the pretext that he was self-isolating according to government recommendations after having close contact with a COVID-19 patient.

It's just that during a medical examination, said Firli, the Golkar Party politician turned out to be in good health and negative from exposure to the virus.

"The health check on AZ took place at his private home with the results that it turned out to be non-reactive for COVID-19 so that the KPK could carry out an examination," said the former Deputy for Enforcement of the KPK.

After getting these results, Azis was then taken forcibly to the KPK's Merah Putih Building to be examined and named a suspect in the alleged bribery case related to the handling of corruption cases in Central Lampung.

As for this case, Azis was named a suspect after giving a bribe of Rp3.1 billion from his promise of Rp4 billion to former KPK investigator Stepanus Robin Pattuju who became a case broker, assisted by lawyer Maskur Husein.

This bribe was given by Azis together with the former chairman of the Golkar Party Youth Force (AMPG) Aliza Gunado. However, Aliza has not been named a suspect at this time.
