The Result Of Hard Work, Task Force Says COVID-19 In Indonesia Is Under Control

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, stated that the current condition of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia is under control. This is thanks to improvements in the indicators for handling the pandemic that has been carried out.

"With all the improvements in various indicators of handling COVID-19 in Indonesia, it can be said that currently, the COVID-19 pandemic is under control", Wiku said in a virtual press conference, Tuesday, September 21.

Wiku said, this week, COVID-19 cases in Indonesia experienced a drastic decline again. As of yesterday, September 20, 2021, daily positive cases have touched the number of thousand cases with active cases having touched 1 percent for 5 consecutive days.

"This is a very good achievement and the fruit of all of our hard work, considering that we once reached 56,000 daily cases with 18 percent active cases last July", he said.

However, Wiku underlined that the improvement inactive cases which reached 1 percent should not let all parties be careless.

Because, looking at other countries that had experienced active cases even below 1 percent, it turned out that they were still experiencing a recent spike in cases.

He gave an example, Australia, whose active cases had reached 0.26 percent on May 24, again experienced an increase of up to 30 thousand active cases as of September 9.

The same thing was also observed in New Zealand, where active cases had reached 0.6 percent as of June 1 and then again experienced an increase in cases in early September to reach 750 active cases.

"This indicates that the improvement of COVID-19 cases must continue to be maintained with discipline in carrying out health protocols because there is no guarantee that the current successful handling of COVID-19 will last forever if it is not balanced with consistent and continuous improvement efforts", he concluded.
