JAKARTA - RI Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin reminded all his staff to optimize the function of eradicating corruption because there will be evaluations for work units that perform less than optimally.

"There will be an evaluation of each head of the work unit, both the Head of the High Prosecutor's Office, the Head of the District Attorney's Office and the Head of the District Attorney's Branch whose performance is less than optimal, namely not being able to uncover criminal acts of corruption in their jurisdiction," said Burhanudin at the opening of the Technical Working Meeting (Rakernis) Sector Special Crimes (Pidsus) which was held virtually from the Attorney General's office at the Kartika Adhyaksa Tower Building, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, reported by Antara, Wednesday, September 15.

Burhanudin emphasized that the warning was not about targets to be achieved, but more about optimizing the function of eradicating corruption.

According to him, one indicator of the government's level of trust in the prosecutor's office in handling corruption can be measured by adding the budget for handling corruption in each work unit.

For this reason, Burhanuddin asked all his staff to respond to the trust that had been given by absorbing the budget for handling corruption cases, meaning that at least every working unit of the Kejari must be able to raise two corruption cases.

However, he underlined, he did not want the prosecutor's work unit to pick up cases haphazardly and carelessly, and handle cases only for fear of being evaluated.

"Handling corruption cases as a form of your dedication to the community," said Burhanuddin.

In his directive, Burhanuddin said it takes hard work, seriousness and commitment to be able to uncover cases of corruption. Because it is believed that there is no area that is currently 100 percent free from corruption.

"Therefore, it is certainly a challenge to uncover it," he said.

Burhanuddin also reminded that heads of work units who have not yet carried out their functions of investigation, investigation or prosecution of special crimes, as was the case last year, are given the opportunity to have a deadline up to the upcoming Prosecutor's Working Meeting.

To avoid errors in the evaluation of the head of the work unit, Burhanuddin asked Jampidsus, especially the Head of the Panil Section, to carry out "updating" and evaluate the accuracy of the case handling data.

On this occasion, Burhanuddin also conveyed several things that need to be done by the Specialist Specialist Division, including increasing the integrity, capacity, capability, and competence of case handling so that they are always professional, careful, and full of prudence in order to bring quality, dignified, law enforcement and reliable.

Creating a conducive, contributive, and not counterproductive case handling or hindering efforts to accelerate the National Economic Recovery (PEN).

Furthermore, improving the quality of handling corruption cases to produce effective and efficient outputs and outcomes, by not only arresting, punishing and providing a deterrent effect, but also being able to recover state financial losses, provide benefits to the community, and improve governance. .

Taking action if there is an act that has been clearly and convincingly constitutes a criminal act of corruption and contains an element of "mens rea" (evil mental attitude).

"Especially if there are parties who seek opportunities and abuse their authority to obtain unauthorized benefits in this pandemic condition, then do not hesitate to impose maximum criminal threats," he stressed.

The next step is to seek to save state finances and recover assets in handling corruption cases.

This is because the success of handling corruption cases is not only measured by how many cases are handled or how many people are imprisoned, but also by how much loss the state saves.

"Through this effort, it is hoped that it will increase non-tax state revenue (PNBP), which will ultimately benefit the national economic recovery," said Burhanuddin.

Furthermore, the Special Investigations Division was asked to optimize the handling of cases by not only applying proof of the element of "detriment to state finances" but also the element of "the state economy". In addition, enforcement is not only directed at individual legal subjects, but also corporations.
