Minister Of Environment And Forestry: Forest And Land Fires Contribute To The Largest Carbon Emissions That Could Damage The Atmosphere

JAKARTA - The Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK), Siti Nurbaya stated that cases of forest and land fires (karhutla) contributed to the largest carbon emissions in the destruction of the atmosphere. In fact, the percentage is more than 50 percent.

"The forest and land fires actually contribute the most carbon emissions to the damage to the atmosphere due to climate change", Siti told reporters on Wednesday, September 15.

For example, if carbon emissions are recorded at 900 million, then more than half of them come from forest and land fires. The rest is divided into other things, such as vehicle gas emissions.

"If the carbon is 900 million, about 486 million of the damage comes from forest and land fires. So 50 percent more", she said.

Therefore, Siti welcomed the launch of the ASAP Digital application (Analysis of Digital Karhutla Control) by the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. Because the application can prevent forest fires which are a chronic problem.

"For us, this is a matter of pride and proves that this karhutla is being handled seriously", she said.

Meanwhile, ASAP Digital Nasional perfects and integrates various pre-existing applications in several areas, including Lembuswana East Kalimantan, Hanyakeun Musuh Central Kalimantan, Proboscis monkeys South Kalimantan, Lancang Kuning Riau, North Sumatra, and North Kalimantan, Songket South Sumatra, ASAP Digital Jambi, Sipongi Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) Satellite.

The first phase of the national digital ASAP technology has installed 28 CCTV points in 10 Regional Police (Polda) prone to forest and land fires, namely Jambi, South Sumatra Police, Aceh Police, North Sumatra Police, Riau Police, South Kalimantan Police, Central Kalimantan Police, West Kalimantan Police, East Kalimantan Police, and North Kalimantan Police.

As for the second phase in December 2021, it is planned to re-install 40 CCTV points at 10 Polda that had previously installed CCTV plus 3 other Polda prone to forest and land fires, namely the Riau Islands Police, the Southeast Sulawesi Police, and the Papua Police.

National digital ASAP has various advantages, namely CCTV Live Auto monitoring, where the CCTV camera installed has High Definition capability and is able to monitor 360 degrees with a range of 4 Km and a radius of 8 Km coverage and can cover an area of 5.026 Ha.

Manual zoom as much as 40 times and can play recordings in the last two months, sensors that can display air temperature, quality,

and air humidity, hotspot data which is updated every 5 minutes according to LAPAN satellite update data, weather forecast data, information data related to company land maps, water sources, and village boundaries, and the position of personnel movement to find out the position of the nearest officer from the hotspot.
