BIN Denies Their Server Was Hacked By Chinese: It Is Under Control

JAKARTA - The State Intelligence Agency (BIN) has denied reports that its internal network system was hacked by hackers from China, Mustang Panda.

BIN ensures that the server is currently in a safe and controlled condition and there is no network system breach.

"Until now, the BIN server is still in a safe and controlled condition. There has been no hacking, as is the case", said BIN Deputy VII Wawan Hari Purwanto, Wednesday, September 15. BIN (State Intelligence Agency) on Friday, September 10.

It is said that the hack was carried out by Mustang Panda Group, a Chinese hacker using private ransomware called Thanos. Even this hack is directly linked to China's espionage efforts in an effort to deal with the warming situation in the South China Sea.

Wawan considered that a cyber attack against BIN was a natural thing considering that this institution continues to work to maintain sovereignty and secure the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

BIN will also cooperate with the National Cyber and Crypto Agency and the Ministry of Communication and Information to ensure the network remains secure.

"BIN cooperates with State Cyber and Code Agency (BSSN) and Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) as well as other government agencies to ensure the BIN network is safe and free from hacking", said Wawan.

However, Wawan said that BIN would continue to explore and coordinate with stakeholders regarding the truth of the information regarding the hacking of the agency's and ministry's servers.

"BIN always checks regularly on the running system including the server to ensure that the server continues to function as it should", he said.

Previously, Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Muhammad Iqbal asked the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) and related ministries to immediately coordinate with the Insikt Group. to request evidence regarding reports of alleged hacking of the system.

"It is also important to know the weaknesses in the system of our institutions and ministries. And what was the motive for the infiltration", Iqbal told reporters, Tuesday, September 14.

Iqbal regretted that the BIN system and a number of ministries were actually hacked. Because according to him, this proves that the system of BIN and the Indonesian Ministry is still very weak.

"If an institution like BIN can be hacked, it is inconceivable with the cyber security system from other Ministries and Institutions. It is not surprising that BPJS, the Ministry of Health, and other institutions can concede", said Iqbal.
