SOLO - Mayor of Surakarta Gibran Rakabuming Raka said there are still a number of teachers who do not comply with health protocols when teaching students in class during limited face-to-face learning (PTM).

"Almost every day before I go to the city hall, I definitely stop by the schools first, come suddenly and without notice, really want to check whether teachers are wearing masks or not, students are limited or not, especially PAUD (early childhood education)," said Gibran in Solo, Central Java, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, September 14.

Gibran said from the results of the inspection, there were several schools that had implemented strict health protocols. However, several others were found to have their teachers take off their masks while giving lesson materials to students in class.

"A few days ago there were three teachers without masks and one student. It happened in one of the junior high schools, when teachers don't wear masks, it automatically affects students so they don't wear masks," he said.

Regarding this matter, they have been directly reprimanded. A warning was also given by the Head of the Surakarta City Education Office.

"I don't like things like that, it's not true. If you keep repeating, you don't need PTM. It depends on the teacher, not on me," said Gibran.

Although there are still some violations in the implementation of PTM, his party still supports the acceleration of limited PTM.

"What is clear is that what is called PJJ (distance learning) or PTM is the same, even if the child intends to study, knowledge will also be absorbed like when face to face, but if I really support PTM," he said.

Previously, during his visit to Solo, Monday, September 13, the Indonesian Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Makarim stated that PTM's rapid action was limited to anticipate permanent negative impacts that could attack children.

"The impact is that if we do not move quickly (PTM), then (students) will lose a loss of learning which can be permanent. Second, is mental and psychological health which can also be permanent in our children," he said.
