JAKARTA - United States (US) President Joe Biden will next week visit the three sites of the September 11, 2001 hijacking attacks to pay tribute to the nearly 3,000 people killed.

Biden's visit -- reported by Reuters via Antara -- marks the 20th anniversary of the country's deadliest terrorist attack.

On Saturday President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will visit New York City, the city where two passenger planes destroyed the World Trade Center Twin Towers and killed 2,753 people.

The president will also visit the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, where part of the building was hit by a third plane, as well as to Shanksville in Pennsylvania, where a fourth plane is believed to have been forced down by some passengers as it intended to target the Capitol or the White House.

Vice President Kamala Harris and husband Douglas Emhoff will travel to Shanksville for separate events, and will then follow Biden at the Pentagon, the White House said.

Biden on Friday, September 3, ordered the Justice Department to review the FBI's investigation into the attacks for disclosure and release to the public.

The order requires US Attorney General Merrick Garland to publish classified documents over the next six months while overseeing a "declassification review of documents" related to the FBI investigation.

Family members of victims of the September 11 attacks on Thursday (2/9) asked US government oversight agencies to investigate their suspicions that the FBI had lied or destroyed evidence linking Saudi Arabia to the hijackers.

Saudi Arabia claims that it was not involved in the hijacking attack.

In August, many families asked Biden not to hold an event marking the 20th anniversary of the September attacks unless the President disclosed documents they thought would prove that Saudi Arabia's leaders assisted in the attacks.
