GUNUNGKIDUL - The Government of Gunungkidul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, has disbursed budget funds for the provision of clean water to 31 villages amounting to IDR 15.3 billion.

Head of the Human Settlements Division, Public Works Agency for Public Housing and Settlement Areas (DPUPRKP) Gunungkidul, Agus Subaryanto, said the funding for this project came from the Special Allocation Fund (DAK), APBD and assistance from the National Drinking Water Supply Program (Pamsimas).

"In total there are 31 villages that received assistance, the allocation varied from IDR 160 million to IDR 3.1 billion. The large budget was received in Bohol Village, Rongkop District through the DAK for drinking water of IDR 3.1 billion. We hope that with this program, access to the community so it's easier", Agus said as quoted by Antara, Thursday, September 2.

He said that until now, access to clean water for the community in Gunung Kidul has only reached 82.3 percent. This number does not only include PDAM services, but also through the Pamsimas, SPAMdus and SPAMdes programs.

Therefore, Agus hopes that the project of providing clean water networks and utilizing water sources can run smoothly so that they can be completed on time. In addition, this facility must be utilized as well as possible and continuously maintained in order to keep working optimally.

"The district government is committed to helping make it easier to get access to clean water. The community must also participate, one of which is taking care of the facilities that have been built", he said.

Meanwhile, a Member of the Gunung Kidul Regional House of Representatives, Ery Agustin S, said the potential of water sources in Gunung Kidul is very abundant which can be seen from the many underground rivers.

However, the existence of these water sources has not been optimized and utilized, so there are still residents who have difficulty getting clean water during the dry season.

"We hope that these water sources can be used properly, so the drought problem can be overcome", said Agus.
