JAKARTA - The Coordinating Ministry for Food and Agriculture has started to accelerate the establishment of the National Food, Energy, and Water Self-sufficiency Area (KSPEAN) in Central Kalimantan through a limited coordination meeting which discussed the determination of the Area of Interest as the initial foothold for the development of the national strategic area.

This step is carried out to ensure that the development of the self-sufficient area is in line with the completion of the Central Kalimantan Regional Spatial Plan (RTRWP) which is the legal basis for land use.

Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, said that accelerating the preparation of the RTRWP was an important prerequisite for the development of the food, energy, and water sectors to take place in an integrated and sustainable manner.

According to Hanif, Central Kalimantan has great potential as one of the national food warehouses. However, various spatial issues that are still dynamic must be resolved immediately so that investment, development, and management of the area have certainty.

For this reason, the Coordinating Ministry for Food and Agriculture has partnered with the Ministry of ATR/BPN, the Ministry of Forestry, and the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government in aligning perceptions regarding the designation of priority areas for the development of KSPEAN.

"We hope that the completion of the Central Kalimantan spatial plan can be accelerated so that it becomes a strong foundation for the development of self-sufficient food, energy, and water areas," said Hanif in Jakarta, Monday, July 6, 2026.

The Head of the Central Kalimantan Regional Planning, Research, and Innovation Agency (Bapperida), Syahfiri, said the local government was ready to follow up on the central government's direction so that the RTRWP could be completed in the near future.

He explained that the document will be the main reference in determining the Other Use Area (APL) that can be used for the development of the food area legally and sustainably.

Currently, the food estate program has been running in Kapuas and Pulang Pisau Regencies. The government is also preparing an expansion of development to East Barito, East Kotawaringin, Seruyan, and a number of other areas.

In fact, the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government targets all 13 regencies and one city to contribute to the development of the self-sufficient area so that regional economic growth is more equitable.
