32 West Sumatran Pasaman Residents Died Due To Accident

JAKARTA - A total of 32 people died due to traffic accidents in West Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra, in the period January to August 2021.

Head of the West Pasaman Police Traffic Unit, Iptu Indra Kusuma, accompanied by the Head of Traffic accident, Ipda Donal, said the number of deaths due to traffic accidents compared to the same period in 2020 reached 39 people or decreased at this time.

According to him, in the past eight months, the number of accidents has reached 200 with 10 people seriously injured, 204 people lightly injured and 32 people dead.

"When compared to the same period January-August 2020, the number of accidents has increased because the number of accidents at that time was only 163", said Indra as quoted by Antara, Monday, August 30.

The death toll in the eight months of 2020 reached 39 people, 18 seriously injured and 169 lightly injured.

He detailed that in January 2021 there were 23 accidents with three deaths, one serious injury, and 22 minor injuries.

Meanwhile, in January 2020 there were 25 accidents with six people dead, three seriously injured, and one lightly injured.

February 2021 with 20 accidents, one death, one serious injury, and 21 minor injuries.

In February 2020, 18 accidents resulted in six deaths, three serious injuries, and 13 minor injuries.

In March 2021 there were 19 accidents, 8 people died, two people were seriously injured and 16 people were lightly injured.

In March 2020 there were 31 accidents, eight people died, three people were seriously injured and 38 were lightly injured.

April 2021 there were 25 accidents, five people died, three people were seriously injured and 25 people were slightly injured.

In April 2020, there were 14 accidents with two deaths, one serious injury, and 14 minor injuries.

Meanwhile, in May 2021 there were 33 accidents with five deaths, no serious injuries, and 37 minor injuries.

In May 2020 there were 19 accidents, five people died, two people were seriously injured and 28 people were slightly injured.

For June 2020, the number of accidents was 23 with eight people dying, one seriously injured, and 20 minor injuries.

For June 2021 the number of accidents was 27 with four people dead, one person seriously injured and 32 people lightly injured.

In July 2020 with 15 cases three people died, two people were seriously injured and 14 people were lightly injured.

In July 2021, there were 25 cases with three dead, two seriously injured, and 25 lightly injured. While in August 2020 there were 19 cases with three dead, three seriously injured, and 21 lightly injured.

In August 2021 there were 28 cases with three deaths, no serious injuries, and 26 minor injuries.

According to him, the accidents that occurred in West Pasaman were dominated by productive groups who violated the rules.

"The accident started with a violation. For example, not wearing a helmet, not wearing a mirror, violating traffic signs other than negligence", he said.

He invited all motorists to obey traffic signs and driving equipment such as SIM (driver's license) and STNK (Vehicle Registration Certificate).

"If you use a SIM in case of an accident, you can claim insurance", he said.
