JAKARTA - The Pontianak City Police, West Kalimantan, has named two suspects, namely the biological mother with the initials Ds and the stepfather Fr in the alleged abuse and imprisonment of a six-year-old child in Pontianak.

"We have determined both of them as suspects, after undergoing examination on Thursday, August 26 until 24.00 WIB", said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit for Pontianak Police, AKP Rully Robinson Poli in Pontianak, as reported by Antara, Friday, August 27.

He explained that of the two suspects, only Fr was immediately detained, while Ds was obliged to report, because she has a small child who is only one year old.

He added that the two suspects were threatened with article 44, Law no. 23 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Domestic Violence with a penalty of five years in prison, as well as Article 80, Law no. 35 of 2014 concerning Amendments to Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection, with a penalty of 3.5 years in prison.

On that occasion, the Head of the Pontianak Police Criminal Investigation Unit added that until now the victim is still being treated at the hospital.

"We have also examined the victim, but the information he gave changed, so we will ask the victim for information accompanied by a psychiatrist", he said.

Rully also added that his party in that case is also continuing to collect evidence that strengthens the allegations of abuse and confinement against it.

The alleged case of abuse against a child emerged after the Pontianak Police received a report from the victim's biological father, with the initials HS (34).

Previously, the Deputy Chair of the West Kalimantan Regional Child Protection Organizing Commission, Sulasti, said that her party had received a report on the alleged domestic violence case, and provided assistance on the case.

''For the child, we provide assistance starting from a health check, and we will check the child psyche, because from the information we received the child is still in a traumatized condition", she said.
