Judge: Juliari Throws Stones Hiding Hands, Dare To Do Not Dare To Be Responsible

JAKARTA - The panel of judges at the Corruption Court assessed that Juliari Batubara was like throwing stones and hiding hands in the bribery case of the COVID-19 social assistance fund. Juliari was sentenced to 12 years in prison and a fine of Rp500 million, subsidiary to 6 months in prison.

"The defendant's actions can be qualified as not a knight, like throwing stones and hiding hands. Dare to do not dare to take responsibility. In fact, he denies what he did," said the panel of judges in their incriminating consideration during the trial of Juliari Batubara's verdict at the Jakarta Corruption Court, Monday, August 23.

Juliari Batubara's actions during the COVID-19 outbreak also weighed on the judge's decision. As for mitigating matters, Juliari Batubara has never been punished.

“The defendant has suffered enough of being reviled, cursed, humiliated by the community. The defendant has been convicted by the community as guilty even though legally the defendant is not necessarily guilty before a court decision has permanent legal force," continued the panel of judges.

The panel of judges stated that Juliari was legally and convincingly proven guilty of corruption. His actions violated Article 12 letter b in conjunction with Article 18 or Article 11 in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Eradication Law in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 to 1 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 64 paragraph 1 to 1 of the Criminal Code.
