JAKARTA - The Tebet Police Criminal Investigation Unit arrested a man suspected of being involved in the possession and sale of revolver-type homemade firearms. The perpetrator with the initials RAG (32) is a former employee of a people's credit bank in Jakarta.

Tebet Police Chief Commissioner Alexander Yurikho said the suspect was arrested during the commemoration of the 76th Indonesian Independence Day, Tuesday, August 17 at a fast-food restaurant, Tebet Barat Village, South Jakarta.

"Yes, so the person in question is a former employee of a credit bank, one of the people's credit banks in Jakarta. He has resigned since 2015", said Alexander at the Tebet Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, Antara, Thursday, August 19.

The arrests began with a cyber patrol carried out by personnel from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Tebet Police. The perpetrator, said Alexander, initially offered the homemade firearm through social media at a price of IDR 7 million.

Then the person concerned conducts the transaction process to the investigators without the suspect knowing.

"What we need to explain here is that this RAG brother sold the homemade weapon to us, officers for IDR 7.000.000", he said.

Furthermore, he said that the weapon was of good enough quality to detonate a bullet so that it could endanger the public. To investigators, the suspect admitted that the weapon had been in possession since November 2020 and had been trading it for the first time.

Nevertheless, continued Alexander, investigators will continue to investigate further whether there are other alleged criminal acts related to the sale and purchase of firearms.

"But we don't necessarily believe it and we will carry out further investigations", he said.

For his actions, RAG was charged with Article 1 paragraph 1 of the Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951 with a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
