Bamsoet Calls For PPHN, Golkar Politicians: Amendments To The 1945 Constitution Are Not Urgent

JAKARTA - Golkar politician Ace Hasan Syadzily assesses that there is no urgent need to discuss amendments to the 1945 Constitution (UUD), including to accommodate the Basic Principles of State Policy (PPHN). "It is better for us to work earnestly to solve the various problems that the nation is currently facing," said Ace in Jakarta, Wednesday, August 18.

According to the Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission VIII, what all parties need to focus on right now is handling COVID-19 and economic recovery due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Direct our nation's energy towards efforts to stop the transmission of COVID-19 and restore our economy as a result of this pandemic," he stressed. Previously, the Chairman of the MPR, Bambang Soesatyo, considered that there was a need to amend the Basic Law to accommodate the Basic Principles of State Policy (PPHN). Therefore, a limited amendment to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia is needed, especially the addition of the MPR's authority to stipulate PPHN.

"The process of changing the Constitution in accordance with the provisions of Article 37 of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia has strict requirements and mechanisms. Therefore, amendments to the Constitution can only be made to articles that are proposed to be amended along with the reasons," said Bambang Soesatyo in his introductory speech to the MPR Annual Session at the Nusantara Building, Jakarta Parliament Complex, Monday, August 16.

Bamsoet, as he is familiarly called, claims that there are many views of the people who want PPHN. He said that it was necessary to amend the 1945 Constitution to add the authority of the MPR to determine the PPHN.

"Various views of the community state that the same vision in national and regional development plans in the short, medium and long term is needed," he said.
