In The Midst Of The COVID-19 Pandemic, Jokowi Admits There Are Many Criticisms Of The Government

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) admits that many criticisms have come to the government in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially regarding unfinished work.

This was conveyed by the State Speech at the Annual Session of the Indonesia People's Consultative Assembly, the Joint Session of the Indonesia House of Representatives to welcome the 76th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia.

"I also realize that there are so many criticisms of the government, especially on things that we have not been able to resolve", Jokowi said in his speech that was broadcast online, Monday, August 16.

He said that constructive criticism is important to convey to the government. Thus, he expressed his gratitude to all parties who are willing to be active and continue to strive to build a democratic culture by criticizing government policies.

"Constructive criticism is very important and we are always responsible for fulfilling responsibilities as expected by the people", he stressed.

Furthermore, Jokowi hopes that all people will continue to hold fast to the values of tolerance, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, Gotong Royong, and Pancasila in society, nation, and state. He also hopes that the Indonesian people can pass the test of the COVID-19 pandemic with steadfast efforts accompanied by prayer.

"We must be strong in facing the pandemic and the various tests that we will face and we must continue to grow in achieving the nation's ideals", he said.

The former governor of DKI Jakarta also asked the public to continue to maintain health protocols because nothing can be safe from the threat of COVID-19.

"We take care of our health, discipline ourselves in health protocols, and look after and help each other", said Jokowi.

"I am aware of fatigue, boredom, fatigue, sadness, and distress during the COVID-19 pandemic", he concluded.
