Social Service Of Yogyakarta Will Guarantee The Education Of Orphans Who Lost Parents Due To COVID-19

YOGYAKARTA - The Special Region Of Yogyakarta (DIY) Social Service will guarantee the education of orphans whose parents died due to exposure to COVID-19 through the DIY Social Rehabilitation and Child Care Center (RSPA).

"They will be sent to school, for elementary, junior high, and high school", said the Head of the DIY Social Service, Endang Patmintarsih, quoted by Antara, Thursday, August 5.

However, the orphans who will be borne by the DIY Social Service will first be ascertained whether or not there is a guardian from a close relative, including the presence or absence of asset ownership.

"Do they have assets, such as a house, or do they still have relatives. So that must be asked first. If they are alone, have nothing, they have no one to support, then we have a hall", she continued.

Regarding this matter, the DIY Social Service Agency has asked the district/city governments to immediately collect data, including carrying out temporary handling.

"Until now there has been no report. We can't just suddenly handle it. We have to prepare for food, school, and all living expenses", said Endang.

Endang said that the DIY Social Rehabilitation and Child Care Center (RSPA) has a capacity for 200 children and is currently inhabited by 170 orphans or abandoned children.

In addition to covering the cost of education, according to him, through the center, the DIY Social Service will also guarantee all the needs of children's lives, including bringing connected parents so they can live independently.

Of all the children living in the hall, according to Endang, no one has been orphaned because their parents died due to exposure to COVID-19.

"On average, because it is not clear where their parents are or their parents are not in harmony so that we don't go the wrong way, we secure them", said Endang.

According to Endang, the DIY Social Service Office is ready to increase the capacity of the RSPA Center, including adding human resources to anticipate the surge in the number of children who are orphaned due to COVID-19.

"The condition is like this, no matter what, we will try later. What is clear is that we also share roles with the district", he said.
