Ridwan Kamil Admits Depok-Bogor Entering The Legal Territory Of Metro Jaya Police Is A Challenge For Handling COVID-19

JAKARTA - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil admitted that the West Java Provincial Government has its own challenges in handling COVID-19 in his province.

He conveyed this in a coordination meeting held by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, together with regional heads throughout Jabodetabek, namely himself, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, and Banten Deputy Governor Andika Hazrumy.

To Ma'ruf Amin, Ridwan Kamil admitted that coordination regarding the handling of COVID-19 in Depok and Bekasi was not easy. This is because these two areas are included in the legal administration area of Polda Metro Jaya and Kodam Jaya which are located in Jakarta.

"In Bodebek, Bogor belongs to the West Java Regional Police Chief, the West Java Regional Police, and the Tiga Siliwangi Regional Military Commander. However, Depok Bekasi is the area of the Metro Police and the Jaya Regional Military Command", said Ridwan Kamil in a Youtube video broadcast by the Vice President's Secretariat, Wednesday, August 4.

"So, in handling COVID-19, especially the coordination between the TNI and Polri, it is not as simple as dividing the area for handling COVID in the administrative political area, which we know is DKI Jakarta. This is also a challenge for West Java in general", he added.

Ridwan Kamil said that the difficulty in coordinating the handling of COVID-19 was felt because Depok and Bekasi were the two areas that were included in the epicenter of COVID-19 or the most cases in West Java.

"So indeed the epicenter of West Java is divided into three, the first order being gathered in Bodebek area, the second in Greater Bandung, then the rest are scattered. Indeed, the division of the political administration and defense and security areas is dynamic", he said.

During the meeting, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin also advised the ranks of the Provincial Governments of DKI Jakarta, West Java, and Banten to abandon the attitude of regional egoism in handling the COVID-19 pandemic.

Coordination is very important so that each region does not arise a kind of sectoral ego. As an agglomeration area, high mobility by residents in Greater Jakarta is unavoidable so the potential for the spread of COVID-19 in the region must be anticipated with the right policies.

"The handling of COVID-19 in Jabodetabek cannot be based solely on administrative areas. The handling of COVID-19 in agglomeration areas such as Jabodetabek, both in terms of programs and data, must be carried out in an integrated and integrated manner through good coordination between the Governor of DKI, Governor of West Java, and Governor of Banten", said Ma'ruf.
