JAKARTA - Head of the South Jakarta Ragunan Wildlife Park Management Unit (TMR), veterinarian Endah Rumiyati, confirmed that no other animals were exposed to COVID-19.

"Apart from tigers Hari and Tino, none of the animals in this TMR show symptoms of COVID-19, so only Tigers Hari and Tino," said dr. Endah Rumiyati, quoted by Antara, Sunday, August 1.

Endah said the medical team will conduct further observations to see that the two protected animals are clinically no longer showing symptoms of illness.

Then the medical team will continue to conduct laboratory tests to ensure the animal is negative for COVID-19.

Endah said that her party will also check other animals to ensure that all animals in Ragunan are in good health.

"So we did a test because this tiger has clinical symptoms of illness, we don't do a test for animals that don't show clinical illness. But maybe in the future, it's possible if we want to check all animals in the future we will try to think about it so we know more," said Endah.

To prevent potential transmission from humans, Endah said she would check all officers to ensure they were free from COVID-19 symptoms.

"We have also seen that none of the nurses have clinical symptoms leading to illness. Indeed, until now we will be tracing because none of our nurses have shown pain, but we do not rule out the possibility of OTG so we are still tracing," said Endah.

Previously, two Sumatran tigers aged 9 and 12 were exposed to COVID-19 on 15 July.

This was detected after the medical team found that both of them had clinical symptoms since July 9, 2021, by showing symptoms of cough, heavy breathing, discharge from the nose, activity, and decreased appetite.
