Suggestion To Puan Maharani To Revoke Luxury Self-isolation Facilities, Ferdinand: High Electability, Instead Of Installing Billboards

JAKARTA - The Indonesian House of Representatives has become a public discussion in recent times. Not because of achievements in the field of legislation, but because of the provision of quarantine facilities in hotels for Council members, experts, and staff who have been exposed to COVID-19.

The provision of facilities at this hotel is stated in the letter number SJ/09596/SETJEN DPR RI/DA/07/2021 which was signed by Secretary-General, Indra Iskandar.

Former Democrat Party politician, Ferdinand Hutahaean, also commented on this policy. Ferdinand said that if she is the chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, there had been a firm order to the Secretary General to revoke this policy.

"Unfortunately I AM NOT PUAN MAHARANI", said Ferdinand via his personal Twitter, @FerdinandHaean3 quoted Thursday, July 28.

Ferdinand added that ordering the Secretary General to revoke this policy is far more beneficial than putting up billboards. Apart from increasing Puan's electability, the political impact is huge.

"If only I were Puan Maharani who was trying to increase political electability, instead of making billboards, as Chair of the House of Representatives I would order the Secretary General of the House of Representatives to cancel this facility. The political impact is great on behalf of the people..!", Ferdinand said.

Separately, a member of the PPP faction, Anas Thahir, assessed that the isolation facility at the hotel for members prepared by the Secretariat General of the Indonesian House of Representatives was counter-productive and could cause social jealousy in the community. Because he said, basically all citizens must have the same access to health facilities.

According to him, House of Representatives members who are positive for COVID-19 can still use the Membership Office (RJA) facilities. So, there is no need to rent a special hotel for members, especially with the state budget.

"Membership Office is quite representative for a self-isolation place because it does not have direct contact with the community and has a large enough yard for activities in the room without interacting directly with other people", said Anas to reporters, Wednesday, July 28.

A member of House of Representatives Commission IX suggested that the budget for renting five-star hotels should be diverted for purposes that directly touch the needs of people affected by COVID-19.

"The condition of the state budget is not good, there is no need for the House of Representatives to burden the state budget only for isoman facilities", said Anas.
