PPKM Level 1-4 Makes COVID-19 Cases Drop, But Unfortunately The Death Rate Is Still Rising

JAKARTA - The government has evaluated the impact of implementing Emergency Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM) up to Level 1 to Level 4 PPKM in the first week. Despite the decline in cases, the COVID-19 death rate is still increasing.

A spokesman for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said the highest daily death rate was 539 cases.

"The death rate then increased in Emergency PPKM to 1,338 cases and increased again in PPKM Levels 1 to 4 to 1,487 cases", said Wiku on BNPB Indonesia's Youtube show, Tuesday, July 27.

Therefore, Wiku said that the extension of PPKM Levels 1 to 4 was carried out to increase the reduction in death cases as much as possible.

Meanwhile, when viewed at the national level, Wiku said that active cases of COVID-19, positivity rate, daily cases, and recovery had improved in the PPKM Level 1 to 4 period after briefly increasing in Emergency PPKM.

The percentage of active cases on the last day of Emergency PPKM was 18.65 percent has decreased on the last day of PPKM levels 1 to 4 to 18.12 percent.

In addition, the positivity rate also decreased from the previous 33.42 percent to 31.16 percent.

"The decline also occurred in the highest daily cases. During the Emergency PPKM period, we once reached the highest daily case of 56,757. In the PPKM Level 1-4 period, we were able to suppress it to 49,509 cases", said Wiku.

"Similarly, the number of cures continues to show an increase from before Emergency PPKM, which was 11,578, increased in Emergency PPKM to 29,791 and continued to increase at PPKM Levels 1 to 4 to 37,640 cases", he continued.

Furthermore, if we look at the islands of Java and Bali, which implement PPKM Levels 3 and 4, the last week saw a decrease in weekly cases of 24 percent. Previously, there was an increase for 2 weeks during the Emergency PPKM period.

However, if we look at the non-Java and Bali provinces, it turns out that in the third week of implementation of Emergency PPKM to PPKM Levels 1 to 4 there was still a slight increase in cases of 3.6 percent.

"This increase is not as high as the previous week, which was 53 percent. This increase was contributed (at most) by East Kalimantan with 10,297 cases, North Sumatra 7,528 cases, Riau 5,999 cases, NTT 5,904 cases, and South Sulawesi 5,010 cases", he concluded.
