10 Tanjungpinang Residents Died During Self-isolation

TANJUNGPINANG - The Tanjungpinang City COVID-19 Task Force, Riau Islands, noted that 10 people who contracted COVID-19 on July 1 to July 22 died while undergoing self-isolation.

Field Coordinator of the Tanjungpinang COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Surjadi, said residents who were infected with COVID-19 but had symptoms, should be treated so that their health conditions recovered.

However, since June-July 2021, the condition of the beds in the treatment rooms for COVID-19 patients at a number of hospitals in Tanjungpinang is often full. This condition causes COVID-19 patients to undergo self-isolation.

While undergoing self-isolation, not all patients receive supervision from a limited number of health workers.

"The other main problem is that the medicines, food, and drinks consumed by patients are in accordance with the needs of their bodies when they are infected with COVID-19 or not. If they are treated, of course, they will receive special supervision and treatment from the medical team", he said, quoted by Antara, Friday, July 23.

Surjadi said that his party had proposed adding health workers to the Riau Islands Provincial Government. In addition, the Tanjungpinang City Government also hopes that the capacity of beds and rooms for COVID-19 patients at the Raja Ahmad Thabib Hospital (RSUP Kepri) in Tanjungpinang will be increased.

More than 50 percent of the beds in the treatment room at the Tanjungpinang Hospital have been used for COVID-19 patients. More than 95 percent of the beds are already in use.

"We will increase the service capacity for COVID-19 patients. A number of treatment rooms for patients with other diseases have been used for COVID-19 patients. Therefore, the Tanjungpinang Regional Government offices will be used for patients who are treated, but not sick due to contracting COVID-19", he said.
