Jokowi Asks Indonesia To Imitate New Zealand And South Korea To Track The Spread Of COVID-19

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo wants the tracking of the spread of COVID-19 to be more aggressive. However, he asked that this be done not in conventional ways but using more sophisticated methods such as in New Zealand and South Korea.

"Aggressive tracking is being carried out more aggressively using the help of a communication technology system and not using conventional means anymore," said Jokowi when opening a limited meeting on handling COVID-19 which was broadcast on the YouTube account of the Presidential Secretariat, Thursday, June 4.

"As we have seen in other countries, for example in New Zealand, they use digital diaries. Then South Korea is also developing mobile GPS for data, so tracking is better monitored," he added.

In front of his ministers, Jokowi also asked for the number of virus tests to be increased. After 10 thousand specimens were reached, Jokowi raised his target.

"Previously, my target of 10 thousand had already been exceeded. I hope that the next target, in the future, is 20 thousand. This must start there," he said.

Previously, on Wednesday, June 3, the number of additional COVID-19 cases continued to occur. The government announced that there were an additional 634 positive cases. So that the total number of positive patients reached 28,233 people.

Additions also occurred for patients who were declared cured. There were 471 people who were declared cured of COVID-19, bringing the total to a total of 8,406.

Meanwhile, death cases decreased slightly when compared to the previous data. As many as 35 people died from contracting COVID-19 for a total of 1,698 people.

For cases of people under monitoring (ODP) the number reached 48,153 people. Meanwhile, for patients under surveillance (PDP) it reached 13,285 people. There were 11,970 specimens that were successfully examined through the realtime polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method and the TCM method on that day and all of them were successfully verified.
