JAKARTA - Dozens of people affiliated with Hamas were arrested in a joint operation carried out by the Israeli military (IDF), internal intelligence Shin Bet and the Border Police on Wednesday 14 July.

The Jerusalem Post quoted them as being part of a Hamas student cell at Birzeit University, at Turmus Aya, after extensive intelligence and operational efforts by the three Israeli security organizations.

"Some of the people arrested in this operation were directly involved in terror activities, including money transfers, incitement and organizing Hamas activities in Judea and Samaria," said a report released by the IDF.

For the purposes of further investigation, all arrested Hamas members were transferred to the local security authority office.

The arrests of the Hamas activist group came after they visited the house belonging to Muntasi Shalabi, which was destroyed by the IDF last week. Shalabi, an American citizen, was charged with the May 2 murder of Yehuda Guetta, a 19-year-old Yeshiva student.

On this occasion the IDF added that the joint Israeli security forces will continue to carry out operations to thwart terrorist acts in Judea and Samaria.

To note, the City of Turmus Aya has attracted attention in recent years, due to the many incidents of vandalism perpetrated by the settlers. Tensions between the village and the nearby settlements of Shilo and Shvut Rahel have persisted for decades.
