JAKARTA - The Supervisory Board of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is conducting an initial investigation regarding the alleged violation of the code of ethics by KPK Deputy Chair Lili Pintauli Siregar.
He is suspected of committing an ethical violation because he communicated with the litigants at the KPK, namely the Mayor of Tanjungbalai M Syahrial.
"It has entered into a preliminary examination in accordance with the procedural law in Dewas Regulation No. 3 of 2020. So it has been a preliminary examination," said member of the KPK Supervisory Board Albertina Ho told reporters at a press conference that was broadcast online, Monday, July 12.
This initial examination will later prove whether or not there was an alleged ethical violation committed by Lili. If so, an ethics hearing will then be held.
"If it is continued to the ethics trial, the trial is also closed as usual. So only the decision is open, that is if it is continued to the ethics trial," he said.
"But if it is not continued because there is not enough evidence, of course the supervisory board will provide a letter to the complainant," added Albertina.
As previously reported, Lili was reported to the KPK Supervisory Board for two alleged ethical violations. First, he allegedly contacted and informed the handling of the alleged corruption case that ensnared the Mayor of Tanjungbalai M Syahrial.
Where this case is suspected to be related to the sale and purchase of positions in the Tanjungbalai Provincial Government, the anti-corruption commission is investigating.
For this action, Lili is suspected of violating the principle of integrity, namely Article 4 paragraph (2) letter a, Regulation of the Indonesian KPK Supervisory Board Number 2 of 2020 concerning Enforcement of the KPK Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct. This article reads:
"KPK personnel are prohibited from having direct or indirect relationships with suspects, defendants, convicts, or other parties who are related to cases of criminal acts of corruption whose cases are known to be being handled by the Commission except in the context of carrying out their duties and with the knowledge of the leadership or direct superiors."
While the second suspicion, Lili is said to have used her position as the head of the KPK with the aim of pressuring the Mayor of Tanjungbalai Syahrial. This was done to settle the staffing affairs of his sister-in-law Ruri Prihatini Lubis at the Tirta Kualo Tanjungbalai Drinking Water Company.
For this allegation, he is suspected of violating the principle of integrity in Article 4 paragraph (2) letter b, Regulation of the Indonesian KPK Supervisory Board Number 2 of 2020 concerning Enforcement of the KPK Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct. This article reads:
"KPK personnel are prohibited from abusing their position and/or authority, including abusing their influence as a member of the Commission, both in carrying out their duties and personal interests."
