Moderna Vaccines Arrive In Indonesia, Minister Of Health Budi: It Will Be Distributed To The Community And Healthcare Workers For Their Third Dose

JAKARTA - Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine from the United States has arrived in Indonesia today. As many as 3.000.060 million doses of the Moderna vaccine have arrived today. In total, Indonesia will receive 4.5 million doses of the Moderna vaccine.

Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that the allocation of millions of finished doses of the Moderna vaccine will be divided into two, namely for the community and health workers who will receive the third dose of vaccination.

"In addition to the plan, we will use this vaccine for the first and second injections for the Indonesian people, specifically, we will use it for the third booster injection for Indonesian health workers", said Budi in the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube broadcast, Sunday, July 11.

Budi said that this third vaccination is only intended for health workers. This is a form of protection for those who are at the forefront of handling the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Because they are under tremendous pressure, especially in the second wave of transmission of this pandemic, so we want to make sure they are protected to the maximum", he said.

Budi said that the Moderna vaccine has high efficacy. Based on information from the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM), Moderna's efficacy is 94.1 percent for ages 18-65 years and 86.4 percent for over 65 years.

"The arrival of the Moderna vaccine, which is technically proven to have high efficacy and high protective capabilities, will greatly help Indonesian health workers to face the second wave of this pandemic", said Budi.

With the arrival of Moderna's vaccine today, Indonesia has secured 122.735.260 doses of vaccine, both in the form of bulk and finished vaccines.

In detail, there are currently 108.5 million doses of Sinovac brand vaccine, most of which are in the form of bulk vaccines. Then, AstraZeneca from the COVIAX Facility line is 8.236.800 doses.

Furthermore, Sinopharm 2 million doses of the finished vaccine, of which 500 thousand of them are supported by the government of Saudi Arabia.

Then AstraZeneca did share bilateral support from Japan in the amount of 998.400 doses of the finished vaccine. Today, Moderna does share the United States through the COVAX Facility in the amount of 3.000.060 doses of the finished vaccine", Retno continued.
