South Sumatra Police Send 104 Brimob Members In 2 Karhutla Prone Areas

PALEMBANG - The South Sumatra Police send 104 Brimob members to assist in the prevention and management of forest and land fires (Karhutla) in two areas that are classified as prone to forest and land fires.

The Brimob members were deployed in Banyuasin and Musi Banyuasin districts, where forest and land fires often occur during the dry season. The ceremony for the release of Brimob troops under Operations Control handling forest and land fires led by the South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector, General Eko Indra Heri S.

The South Sumatra Police Chief explained that forest and land fires, which can cause haze disasters, have always been a problem in the province which has plantations and forest areas covering an area of 3.5 million hectares.

Based on experience in handling forest and land fires in the last few years, it can be overcome by reducing all forces in regional units including Brimob, and the support of the TNI and related agencies.

Facing forest and land fires in the 2021 dry season, his party is trying to do more to help local governments and communities in areas prone to forest and land fires so that large fires can be prevented which can lead to haze disasters.

"Forest and land fires need to be prevented and handled properly, if smoke occurs it can interfere with various activities and public health", said Inspector General Eko, quoted by Antara, Friday, July 9.

Facing the threat of forest and land fires in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the South Sumatra Regional Police personnel and ranks deployed in areas prone to forest and land fires to maintain health and continue to apply health protocols.

Personnel in the field are required to educate the public about handling forest and land fires as well as how to break the chain of the spread of COVID-19.

"Through these efforts, it is hoped that the problem of forest and land fires can be handled properly and the COVID-19 pandemic can be ended soon", said Police Head.
