Jokowi Appoints Luhut As Coordinator Of Emergency PPKM For Java-Bali

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo appointed Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan as Coordinator for the Implementation of Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) for the Java and Bali Islands.

"It is true that the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment has been appointed by President Jokowi as the Emergency PPKM Coordinator for the islands of Java and Bali," said Spokesperson for Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Jodi Mahardi as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, June 29.

Jodi also clarified the news circulating on instant messaging applications. He mentioned currently being formulated tightening measures to be taken.

"An official announcement will be made by the government," he said.

Jodi said supermarkets, malls and other essential sectors would continue to operate with shortened operating hours and strict health protocols.

"Please don't panic with the news circulating in the WhatsApp group," he said.

Jodi also reminded all parties to maintain strict health protocols, vaccinate those who are healthy and stay alert.

Previously, news circulated about the Emergency PPKM discourse following the continued increase in COVID-19 cases. Emergency PPKM is said to limit a number of activities, such as working from home (Work From Home) to rules for visiting restaurants and shopping centers. However, until now there has been no official government statement regarding the Emergency PPKM plan.

The Task Force for Handling COVID-19 reported that the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia from Tuesday to 12.00 WIB increased by 20,467 and accumulatively since March 2020 it has become 2,156,465 people.
