JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said that Indonesia, which will occupy the chair of the G20 countries or the G20 Presidency next year, will increase economic resilience and stability.

In addition, Indonesia will also increase productivity, ensure sustainable and inclusive growth, create partnerships with multi-stakeholders.

"Indonesia's presidency will be used to increase resilience and economic stability. In line with the identity of the Indonesian nation, we will do everything inclusively. Indonesia wants to make the G20 meaningful, not only for its members, but for all countries in the world," said Foreign Minister Retno in a statement after following the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting in Italy, Tuesday 29 June local time.

Foreign Minister Retno said that all of this could only be achieved by strengthening stronger global collective leadership, through dialogue and partnerships between the G20 and developing countries from various regions, such as Africa, the Pacific, the Caribbean and other regions.

In the meeting with the theme 'People, Planet and Prosperity', Foreign Minister Retno said the G20 countries must make multilateralism and global governance work well, to deal with COVID-19, economic recovery and food security.

However, Foreign Minister Retno regretted that there were still many countries that actually built dividing walls, when the world needed bridges to overcome differences, to answer common problems.

"Three important things I convey, first, the G20 must be able to function as a catalyst to strengthen multilateralism, sending a single message that the world must move forward together. Second, the importance of making global partnerships a reality. How? That is by honoring commitments that produce concrete results," he explained.

"Third, the G20 must be able to revitalize multilateral institutions, so that they are more responsive and adaptive to change, pay more attention to an 'equitable' decision-making process, so that they become more relevant to the very fast development of the world," continued Foreign Minister Retno.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi appreciated the support from a number of friendly countries, related to the Presidency of the G20 countries next year. He also mentioned Indonesia's readiness to continue the G20 Presidency after this year by Italy.
