COVID-19 Increased In Jayapura, Mayor Asks PPKM To Be Re-enforced

JAKARTA - The Mayor of Jayapura, Papua, Benhur Tomi Mano, admitted that he had asked to re-enforce the implementation of micro-scale community activity restrictions (PPKM) in the area considering the increasing number of COVID-19 cases.

The Jayapura City Government is waiting for the Papua Provincial Government's decision regarding the implementation of micro PPKM in order to suppress the spread of the COVID-19 virus, which has now mutated, he said as quoted by Antara, Sunday, June 27.

"It is true that at this time there has been an increase in the number of residents who are positive for COVID-19 since the return of residents who went home for Eid Al-Fitr 1442 Hijriah by ship," he said.

He said, specifically for ship passengers who disembarked at the port of Jayapura, passengers who were positive for COVID-19 were found after being tested through antigen upon arrival at the dock.

Every incoming passenger ship must find positive cases so that his party hopes when entering the Papua region, especially Jayapura, ship passengers must be checked through PCR, although upon arrival at the port the officers will again carry out inspections.

Therefore, with the increase in the number of residents who are positive for COVID-19, micro PPKM will be implemented and district heads up to the RT/RW level are expected to continue to monitor their citizens and implement health protocols in their respective environments considering the virus is back to the plague.

Even the Jayapura City Government starting Monday (28/6) again opened a centralized quarantine at the Kotaraja LPMP specifically for residents who were positive for COVID-19, said BTM.

Cumulatively positive cases of COVID-19 in Jayapura City were recorded at 9,425 people, 9,029 people recovered, 228 people were treated and 168 people died.
