JAKARTA - The results of the auction of confiscated objects in the alleged corruption and money laundering cases of PT Asabri in the form of 16 cars sold with total sales of Rp17.2 billion.

Head of the Attorney General's Center for Legal Information (Kapuspenkum Kejagung) Leonard Eben Ezer Simanjuntak said 11 of the 16 cars were successfully auctioned through the Jakarta IV State Property and State Auction Service Office.

Leonard explained that the auction process was a follow-up to the Memorandum of Service of the Director of Investigation at the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Number B-101/F.2/Fd.2/04/2021 dated April 7, 2021, regarding assistance in the auction of assets in the investigation stage.

According to him, the auction was carried out with several considerations, namely the investigation of corruption cases and the Asabri money laundering crime for the period 2012-2019 against the suspects Jimmy Sutopo, Sonny Widjaja, Ilham W Siregar, and Heru Hidayat.

"To prevent damage requires high storage costs which of course burden the Attorney's budget," said Leonard.

Another consideration is that the confiscated goods in the form of cars and buses confiscated from the four Asabri suspects have a perishable nature and result in a decrease in the economic value of the confiscated objects that have the potential to harm state finances.

Because of that, Leonard continued, at the time of the auction, the value of the goods was very low or even had no economic value anymore.

According to him, the auction of confiscated objects that are quickly damaged and require high storage costs is regulated in Article 45 of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).

"The auction is conducted through the Executive Auction of confiscated objects, through the intermediary of the State Property and Auction Service Office (KPKNL)," said Leonard.

The results of the auction of 11 vehicles from the 16 cars that were auctioned collected Rp17.2 billion. The remaining five vehicles have no interest.

Types of vehicles that have no interest, namely Mercedes Benz B-296-KE worth Rp3 billion, Land Rover B-2728-STN worth Rp1.45 billion, Camry B-206-BSA worth Rp534 million, Venturer B-2984-PFE worth Rp330 million, and the Outlander B-732-RIF worth Rp240 million.

He said the results of the vehicle auction were then deposited into a holding account at Jampidsus.

"Furthermore, it can be used as substitute evidence in the process of further resolving the case against the suspect," said Leonard.

Furthermore, Leonard said, the five vehicles that were not sold will be re-auctioned on July 1, 2021.
