80 Percent Of Millennials Satisfied With President Jokowi

JAKARTA - The findings of a survey conducted by the Center for Political Communication Studies (CPCS) show that the level of satisfaction with the Jokowi-Ma'ruf government among millennials and Gen Z reaches 80.9 percent.

"The satisfaction level of millennials and Gen Z with Jokowi has reached 80 percent", said CPCS Executive Director, Tri Okta SK, in a press release in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Tuesday, June 15.

The high satisfaction of the younger generation reflects optimism about the future of Indonesia in the hands of President Jokowi, who is now entering his second term.

According to him, this phenomenon is a positive sign for what has been often touted as a demographic bonus.

The fear that the rapid growth of the youth population will be a burden for the future seems unfounded.

Millennials and Gen Z, Okta said, feel that the direction of progress that Jokowi is pushing for is right and fulfills their aspirations.

"This is an important asset for the government and the nation to look to the future better", he said.

On the other hand, the survey conducted by CPCS also shows that millennials and gen Z choices tend to be low for government coalition parties.

"It seems that there is a gap between Jokowi's figure and political parties that support the government, where young people give a more positive appreciation to Jokowi", Okta explained.

Likewise, the presidential candidate who is favored by millennial and gen Z voters is not Prabowo Subianto or Puan Maharani, but Ganjar Pranowo and Ridwan Kamil.

Ganjar, who is not a central figure in PDIP and the independent RK, has more support from millennials and Gen Z.

"Interesting, how is Jokowi's endorsement of presidential candidates who will run in the 2024 election, where Jokowi himself is only an ordinary cadre or 'party officer' and his relationship with the parties that now support him", said Okta.

Meanwhile, dissatisfaction with Jokowi is very low (15.4 percent), the rest don't know/don't answer (3.7 percent).

The CPCS survey was conducted on June 1-10 2021, with 1,200 respondents representing all provinces in Indonesia and aged 16-39 years.

The survey was conducted by telephone with randomly selected respondents from the previous survey since 2019. The survey margin of error is ±2.9 percent and at a 95 percent confidence level.
