JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has asked for massive COVID-19 vaccinations for people in DKI Jakarta.

In fact, he gave an ambitious target and needed hard work to DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan regarding the administration of this vaccine.

"I have conveyed to the Governor of DKI Jakarta that by the end of August, the target of 7.5 million people in Jakarta must have been vaccinated. This is indeed an ambitious target", Jokowi said in a press conference broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel, Monday, June 14.

This ambitious target was inevitably launched in order to achieve community immunity or herd immunity amid the spread of COVID-19.

"Like it or not, we have to go there", said the former governor of DKI Jakarta.

In order to achieve this target, he asked all parties from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to the sub-districts, urban villages, and health facilities such as health centers and hospitals to work hard to achieve this target.

In addition to achieving herd immunity in the midst of a pandemic, this target is also set because DKI Jakarta is prone to transmission given the very high interaction and mobility of the community.

"So the speed of vaccination is very decisive", said Jokowi.

Furthermore, he also explained that today he had visited the mass vaccination program at the Tanah Tinggi Flats, Central Jakarta. According to him, vaccination in densely populated areas such as in densely populated areas such as flats should be a concern.

"Imagine if in this flat there is only one affected (COVID-19). The spread will be very fast. So vaccination is very much needed in this area", said Jokowi.

Previously, data from the Ministry of Health as of Sunday, June 13 noted that the number of people who had been injected with the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine increased to 11.568.443 people. While people who have been vaccinated the first dose reached 20.158.937 people.
