JAKARTA - Malaysian police have arrested brothers who are suspected of using their house in Kampung Duyong Besar as a drug storage facility worth RM1.76 million or around Rp7.5 billion.
Head of Terengganu Police Khairi Khairudin said the two suspects, aged 39 and 50 years old, were arrested with evidence (barbuk) of around 22 kilograms (kg) of marijuana which was secured during the raid on June 14.
"Initial investigations found that the two suspects acted as warehouse guards for a syndicate believed to have been active since March this year. The drug supply is believed to have been obtained from an international syndicate that smuggled it into the country via the sea route," he said in a press conference on Sunday, June 21, quoted from The Sun.
Khairudin said the two suspects were declared drug-negative based on the examination after being secured.
He added that the suspect, who is 50 years old, has been involved in 13 drug cases, while his younger brother has no criminal record.
Khairudin said that the drugs seized by his party were estimated to be enough for 44,000 addicts, and were believed to be intended for the international market.
"Based on our investigation, the marijuana buds were intended to be sent abroad. The buds will be processed to extract the liquid, which we believe is used as a flavor for electronic cigarettes that can cause intoxication," he said.
