JAKARTA - The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) Tokyo supports the strengthening of the capacity of young Indonesian farmers through participation in the ASEAN Young Farm Leaders Training Program in Japan (AYFLTPJ) 2026.
This program is organized by the Japan Agricultural Exchange Council (JAEC) in collaboration with the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), as well as the governments of the participating countries, namely Indonesia through the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, Thailand and the Philippines.
The opening of AYFLTPJ 2026 on April 27, 2026 at the Ota City Youth Exchange Center, Tokyo, was attended by representatives of the Japanese MAFF, JAEC, Embassy of Japan in Tokyo, as well as representatives of the Embassy of Thailand and the Embassy of the Philippines in Tokyo.
This year, the AYFLTPJ program was attended by 50 ASEAN young farmers, consisting of 18 participants from Indonesia, nine participants from Thailand and 23 participants from the Philippines.
The Forestry Attaché/Acting Agricultural Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Ima Yudin Rayaningtyas, on Tuesday expressed his appreciation to JAEC and MAFF Japan for their commitment and consistency in organizing this strategic program.
"AYFLTPJ is not only a training program, but also a long-term investment in the development of agricultural human resources in the ASEAN region," explained Ima, launching the statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Friday (5/6).
"The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo hopes that Indonesian participants can take this opportunity to learn technology, modern agricultural management, smart agriculture, farmer business systems, and the Japanese people's work ethic. The best practices and practices obtained during the program are expected to be adapted in Indonesia to support increased productivity, efficiency, added value of farmers' businesses, and strengthening national food security," he said.
Currently, 18 Indonesian participants have been living with host farmers spread across 10 prefectures in Japan. For about 11 months, the participants have taken direct training in the field, learned about Japanese society, and built discipline, responsibility, and professionalism.
As part of the monitoring program, in June-July 2026, visits to the training locations of participants in six prefectures, namely Ibaraki, Fukushima, Wakayama, Okinawa, Niigata and Fukui will be carried out. The training commodities in the six prefectures include strawberries, sweet potatoes, rice, vegetables, melons, oranges, spices, dracaenas, bananas, edamame, flowers and taro. In addition, it is also planned to carry out a monitoring visit in August 2026 and an annual meeting in September 2026.
Ima added that his party hopes that this program will not only be a means of learning agricultural science, but also strengthen networking, friendship, and regional cooperation among ASEAN young farmers for a more advanced, adaptive, and sustainable agricultural future.
