DKI PPDB Opens Today, DPRD Protests: Through Social Media And Webinars, Socialization Is Still Lacking

JAKARTA - New student admissions (PPDB) in Jakarta opened simultaneously today. There are changes to several provisions in PPDB this year with last year.

However, Deputy Chairperson of Commission E of the DKI DPRD (Regional House of Representatives), Anggara Wicitra Sastroamidjojo, views that the change in provisions has not been massively echoed by the DKI Provincial Government. The socialization is still lacking, he said.

First, this year, the DKI Provincial Government has determined the zoning by looking at the RT (Neighborhood Association) administrative area boundaries where students live and schools to determine the priority of accepting prospective students.

It is known that there are four acceptance pathways at PPDB, namely the zoning path, the achievement path, the affirmation path, and the transfer route for the duties of parents and teachers' children.

This year, the zoning is based on RT and is divided into three types of priorities. Priority 1 is for domicile RTs, priority 2 is for RTs around the school, and priority 3 is for RTs not directly adjacent to the school.

According to Anggara, this zoning change only came out last May and the socialization was only through social media and webinars.

"There is no direct socialization to parents, minimal two-way communication, so there is still confusing information between parents", said Anggara, Monday, June 7.

Anggara is worried that this changing zoning system could lead to a polemic that occurred last year because it was not supported by comprehensive socialization.

In addition, the zoning system changed, and the rules for achievement pathways for academic and non-academic achievements also add aspects of non-academic percentiles and non-academic achievements, such as organizational experience and championships determinants in addition to report cards and accreditation as last year.

Then, if prospective students fail to enter PPDB 2021, they must be informed that the DKI Provincial Government still has a school entry education assistance program (BPMS) that helps students get education in private schools.

According to Anggara, these rules should be intensively informed so that parents can ensure the choice of the most appropriate school based on the domicile of the prospective student's residence.

"In addition, it is also necessary to release a registration video tutorial in each selection path and distribute it to all prospective students. The hope is that there will be no more confusion or loss of information for parents", he added.
