JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to the public to be aware of the potential for heavy rain that could be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in several areas in Indonesia.

Based on data compiled from the official BMKG website, it is stated that the weather potential is in Aceh, West Sumatra, Bengkulu, Southeast Sulawesi, and Papua.

Meanwhile, areas with the potential for rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds are North Sumatra, Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, Lampung, Banten, West Java, DKI Jakarta, South Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku, and West Papua. Meanwhile, East Java is forecasted to experience strong winds.

The BMKG also appealed to the public to be aware of high waves of 2.5-4 meters in the western waters of Aceh, the western waters of Simeulue Island to the Mentawai Islands, Bengkulu waters to West Lampung, and the West Indian Ocean of Sumatra.

In addition, it also occurred in the western and southern parts of the Sunda Strait, the western and southern parts of the Sunda Strait, the southern waters of Banten to Sumbawa, the southern part of the Bali-Lombok-Alas Strait, the South Indian Ocean of Banten to East Nusa Tenggara, the southern waters of the Sermata-Tanimbar Islands, and the Arafuru Sea.

The BMKG appealed to pay attention to high risks to shipping safety, namely on fishing boats, barges, ferries, and large ships such as cargo ships/cruise ships.
