During May, 161 Earthquakes Occurred In East Nusa Tenggara

JAKARTA - Kupang Geophysics Station, Meteorology Climatology Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded 161 earthquakes occurred in the East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT) during May 2021.

"The highest earthquake activity occurred on May 10, 2021, with 13 incidents", said Head of the BMKG Kupang Geophysics Station Margiono in Kupang, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, June 2.

He said this was related to the intensity of the earthquake that occurred in the East Nusa Tenggara region.

Of the 161 earthquakes, he said, there were four events that were felt in NTT and its surroundings.

He explained that the earthquake in May 2021 was dominated by earthquakes of small magnitude or magnitude below 4.0 as many as 151 times.

In addition, this earthquake also occurred at a shallow depth or below 60 kilometers as many as 121 times.

Margiono hopes that with the condition of NTT which is prone to earthquakes, the public still needs to increase their awareness of the impacts.

"Hopefully this information can be useful and we ask the public to always be alert", he said.

He also appealed to the public to continue to follow the development of information from the BMKG and not be influenced by earthquake information from unaccounted for sources, especially those circulating on social media.
