KENDARI - The Kendari Class II City and Port Authority (KSOP) office conducted a feasibility test on 22 transport vessels in preparation for welcoming the Lebaran or Idulfitri 1447 Hijriah/2026 Masehi homecoming flow.

Head of the Kendari Class II KSOP, Capt. Raman, said that this marathon inspection was a follow-up to the instructions of the Directorate General of Maritime Affairs of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) of the Republic of Indonesia to ensure the safety of national maritime transport.

"All passenger ships in the Kendari KSOP working area are required to undergo a swab test. We check the navigation system, safety equipment, main engine condition, to the readiness of human resources (HR). The goal is to ensure that all devices are ready without obstacles when serving travelers," said Capt. Raman when met in Kendari, Antara, Tuesday, February 3.

He said that from the results of the sampling test, the team found several technical notes that must be immediately corrected by the respective ship operators.

He gave an example related to the findings on the fire suppression system which was less optimal on some ships.

"In general, it meets the requirements, but there are notes for improvement such as the fire hose which is not tight and the pump which must be strengthened to increase the pressure so that the water spray is more intense. Including the Uki Raya 23 ship, we encourage them to immediately complete the repairs," he said.

Raman revealed that as many as 22 fleets of ships have been prepared to serve the Lebaran transportation this year, with the possibility of adding fleets depending on the escalation of the number of passengers in the field.

He hopes that all technical improvements can be completed before entering the peak period of homecoming traffic.

Meanwhile, one of the ship captains who was tested for picking stated that his party would follow up on the findings of the picking test in accordance with the applicable procedures.

"We will make immediate repairs. I have also instructed all ship crews to increase vigilance and technical capabilities to anticipate undesirable things during the voyage," he said.

He explained that his ship was one of the mainstay fleets serving the Kendari-Raha route (round trip) with a total carrying capacity of 240 passengers.
