The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency: There Is Potential For Heavy Rain With Lightning In Several Regions Of Indonesia

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned of the potential for heavy rain with lightning and strong winds in several areas including several areas in Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi today.

​​​​According to information from the BMKG website monitored by Antara on Sunday, several areas have the potential to experience heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds, namely Aceh, South Sumatra, Lampung, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Maluku, West Papua, and Papua.

In addition, other areas that have the potential to experience rain are Riau, West Java, DKI Jakarta, Central Java, East Java, South Kalimantan, and North Maluku.

Based on BMKG monitoring, 99W seedlings were observed in the Pacific Ocean east of the Philippines with a tendency of persistent intensity.

Indirectly, this system has an impact on the formation of confluence areas or slowing of wind speed (convergence) that extends in the eastern waters of the Philippines and West Papua as well as wind confluence areas in the Sulawesi Sea, the sea waters of Halmahera, and the southern Philippines.

This condition is able to increase the potential for rain cloud growth around the tropical cyclone spawn area and along with the convergence and confluence areas.

The BMKG also warned that there are several areas that fall into the category of being alert to the risk of flooding and/or flash floods due to weather, such as Aceh, South Sumatra, Central Java, East Java, North Kalimantan, and East Kalimantan.

Other potential floods in the alert category are also warned to occur in Central Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi.
