Pipe Gas Plantation Owned by PT TGI Exploded

JAKARTA - A gas pipe owned by PT Trans Gas Indonesia (TGI) in Dusun Nibul, Batu Ampar Village, Kemuning District, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau Province was reported to have exploded and suffered a massive fire up to a height of 15 meters on Friday, January 2, 2026, at around 16.35 WIB.

Head of the Indragiri Hilir Police, AKBP Farouk Oktora, said that police personnel had been at the scene and the public had been urged to temporarily stop crossing activities, both from Jambi to Riau and vice versa.

"Personnel are already at the crime scene. People who cross the path to Jambi or vice versa, we urge them to stop temporarily. We have also coordinated with the gas company to immediately manage the crisis and cut off the pipeline," said the Police Chief, ANTARA, Friday.

He said the incident began at around 16.00 WIB, when local residents heard an explosion that was suspected to have come from a buried gas pipe belonging to PT TGI. Not long after, a fire was seen spraying into the air from the location of the pipe and causing a fire.

Knowing the incident, the Head of the Kemuning Police Sector together with personnel immediately came to the scene to carry out security and preventive measures. Police personnel also gave an appeal to the public not to approach the scene in order to avoid the risk of danger due to the fire and gas blast.

According to the statement of the authorized officer, the blocking of the gas flow has been carried out by closing or blocking.

Based on provisional data, there were no casualties or affected residents, considering the distance of the gas pipeline from the surrounding residential areas was approximately 500 meters. Until now, the situation at the scene was observed to be safe and conducive, although the weather conditions were reported to be heavy rain and the fire was still on.
