DIY Police Prepare 21 Christmas-New Year Security Posts

YOGYAKARTA - Yogyakarta Special Region Police have prepared 21 service and security posts at vulnerable points to support the smooth operation of the 2025 Progo Candle during Christmas and New Year.

"There are 21 posts built in service and security by the National Police involving all regional governments and stakeholders, as well as community involvement," said Yogyakarta Regional Police Chief Inspector General Anggoro Sukartono after the coordination meeting of the DIY Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) at the Kepatihan complex, Yogyakarta, Wednesday, December 10, reported by ANTARA.

According to Anggoro, the posts cover eight service points in coastal and reservoir areas that are considered to have potential threats due to potential extreme weather, including high waves on the southern coast.

In addition, there are 19 other service and security posts spread throughout the DIY area.

Anggoro said that he would deploy 1,975 Polri personnel and around 700 officers from related agencies, mass organizations, and community groups to support the operation of service and security posts during the 2025 Progo Candle Operation.

The Kapolda explained that all potential vulnerabilities during the Christmas and New Year holidays have been mapped, ranging from the threat of extreme weather, high waves on the southern coast, to the activities of Mount Merapi.

"There is indeed a threat of high waves on the coast of the south coast that has potential, and this must be conveyed to the community both to tourists, residents, as well as to fishermen," he said.

According to the direction of the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Anggoro said that DIY is one of the main tourist destinations during the year-end holidays.

This condition is predicted to cause an increase in the volume of vehicles, congestion at a number of points, and the potential for vulnerability from the high activity of the community.

Anggoro said the Malioboro area would become one of the centers of attention during the year-end holidays due to high tourist visits.

"Malioboro is the central center for the presence of tourists. Earlier, the Department of Transportation had also conveyed the pattern, including parking pockets," he said.

According to him, the pattern of regulation in the area is being finalized with relevant agencies.

"We ensure that the entire series of Nataru security can run smoothly from all activities to maintain the security and security situation in the implementation of Nataru 2025," said Anggoro.
