Three pickpocket gangs who took action on the Transjakarta bus, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Senayan area, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, were arrested by members of the Tanah Abang Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit.

They were arrested after being caught stealing a pickpocket mode on a Transjakarta bus. From the hands of the gang, evidence was confiscated of a victim's cellphone.

Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Kombes Susatyo Purnomo Condro said the incident began when the victim with the initials EPT (24) was returning home with his friend after attending Christmas activities at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.

When boarding the Transjakarta bus, the conditions inside and at the bus stop were quite crowded, so the passengers jostled.

"At that time, the three perpetrators, known to have the initials MR (22), SS (21) and MF (23) grabbed the victim and took the cellphone stored in their pants pocket," said the Police Chief, Monday, December 8.

Then the bus security officers who were alert immediately closed the door and checked the passengers one by one.

One of the suspects dropped the stolen goods when another passenger was caught, so that the three suspects were arrested.

"We urge the public to remain vigilant when using public transportation, and immediately contact call center 110 if a crime occurs," he said.

For their actions, the three suspects were charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code regarding theft with weight. The maximum penalty of imprisonment is 7 years.
