KPK Chairman Ready To Utus Subordinates Observing The Sumatran Aceh Disaster Victim Assistance Budget

YOGYAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Setyo Budiyanto is ready to send his subordinates to oversee the aid budget for disaster victims in Aceh and Sumatra. This step is to prevent irregularities related to assistance to donations.

"Later, maybe we will assign the deputy related to it, whether there is a Korsup or maybe a precaution to work together to see so that it doesn't happen again, there are deviations related to assistance, yes, donations from the community," Setyo told reporters in Yogyakarta, Monday, December 8.

Setyo agrees that misappropriation of donations is indeed a problem. Because, the gift is usually done through many doors.

"Something is done directly, something is done through a predetermined institution," he said.

Even so, Setyo said, his subordinates would only be assigned after conditions in the affected areas were more conducive. "This is now a bit of an emergency process, meaning that we are responding first," he said.

"The first thing the government does is how to return the victims, the priority is there," continued Setyo, who also served as Director of KPK Investigations.

Meanwhile, President Prabowo Subianto Prabowo firmly reminded the ranks of ministries, institutions, local governments, and law enforcement officials to maintain integrity in the use of budgets and distribution of aid. No party should abuse it.

This statement was conveyed by Prabowo when giving directions in limited disaster management meetings in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra on Sunday, December 7.

"There should be no fraud, there should be no corruption in all government entities ... Don't look for profit in the midst of the suffering of the people," Prabowo said at the time.

Prabowo is optimistic that this natural disaster can be handled in a compact manner. He said Indonesia already had experience.
