Mahfud Refuses To Repeal ITE Law But Government Confirms Addition Of Article, Like What?

JAKARTA - The government is preparing a new article in the Law on Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE Law). The article is Article 45C.

Chairman of the Ite Law Revision Team Sugeng Purnomo explained, "This article is a criminal act that we formulate, which is actually a criminal act that is regulated in a provision outside the ITE Law. We try to formulate for put here", said Sugeng, Friday, May 22.

According to Sugeng, criminal acts related to non-consumer fake news that raises the issue are regulated in Articles 14 and 15 of Law No. 1 of 1946 on The Regulation of Criminal Law. Now, the article is constructed into Article 45 C.

"This is a new chapter. While the other article is the development article of the existing article. We re-formulate", Sugeng.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md reaffirmed the public's insistence on repealing the ITE Law. Nevertheless, Mahfud said there will be changes based on studies from the government.

The revision is a change in the sentence in the article in the ITE Law. Or those changes could be limited in the form of phrase additions or phrase changes and explanatory additions.
