14 Chinese Citizens Caught Working In Kelapa Gading Area Mall Misuse Residence Permits

Head of the Class I Immigration Office of TPI North Jakarta, Rendra Mauliansyah, said 14 foreign nationals (WNA) from China who were arrested in the Kelapa Gading area, North Jakarta (Jakut), were proven to have committed immigration violations, namely abusing residence permits.

"The immigration violations they committed abused the residence permit and violated Article 122 Letter a of Law (UU) Number 11 concerning Immigration," said Rendra, Friday, November 14.

A total of 14 Chinese nationals are known to hold a residence permit for visits with the C18 index.

Rendra said they initially only conducted a work trial, but when officers inspected one of the malls in Kelapa Gading, they turned out to be working as rough workers, ranging from foremanes, electric workers, paintmen, carpenters, ceiling builders, to ceramics.

In this case, the residence permit holder of the visit that should have been used for the purposes of the work trial is actually misused to work and receive wages so that it fulfills the element of violation.

"This activity is not in accordance with the residence permit and is categorized as an immigration violation," said Rendra.

Meanwhile, Head of Intelligence for the North Jakarta Immigration Office, Widya Anusa Brata, said that the 14 Chinese nationals would be subject to administrative action in the form of deportation to their country of origin.

According to him, the arrests of the 14 foreigners began with public reports received on Monday, November 14, morning.

The report states that there are foreigners who become rough workers in development projects inside shopping centers in Kelapa Gading.

The officers then immediately monitored and found out that the foreigner was doing construction work from 20.00 WIB to 04.00 WIB.

On Monday, November 14, the night, officers arrested the 14 foreigners who worked as rough laborers.

"It turned out that they had worked at the location for one week and violated immigration regulations," said Widya.
